Bible Study – Understanding Life & Death

"Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted." Matthew 5:4

In 2010 researchers estimated a total of 1,022,000 words existed in the English language. This number has been growing by several thousand each year. There could be 5 million, 5 billion, 5 trillion words in any language but no amount of words can encapsulate or express the grief of losing a loved one. The void left in us cannot be filled. Mourning is a painful process.

However, there is good news! God knows exactly what you are going through. He understands your pain and loss. And He has answers to your questions. They are found in His Word. The bible teaches that we are beings made to commune with one another. We were not made for isolation or loss. To understand death, we need to understand life and the Giver of life.

To heal entails having a support system, sharing our grief and pain with others, and most importantly opening our hearts to God through prayer. God has promised that He will not leave us nor forsake us (Deuteronomy 31:6). The grave has no victory because of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:55). We have been given the Holy Spirit who helps us and guides us (John 14:15-31). We are not left alone or in dispair in our grief.
